Point Chevalier Action Plan Report

Stage 1 Delivered 2013

“Urbanlogic were appointed to provide an innovative way of capturing urban environment data that can be used to provide real action points and outcomes”

Auckland Council’s Community Facility Needs Assessment and DNA mapping research provides an important opportunity for Council and the Local Board to strategically address the development of public community facilities as part of the overall social infrastructure for Point Chevalier and to act as a starting point for Point Chevalier Action Plan:

• Identification of community needs and evaluation of these needs

• Assistance with the selection and prioritisation of actions to improve community access and use of community and recreation facilities

• Recommendations for integration and coordination facility use to maximise returns for ratepayers

• A framework to assist council stakeholders operating in the area

• Building relationships and community participation by engaging Point Chevalier local residents and other stakeholders

To attempt an understanding of any territory as is it at a ‘moment in time’, it is necessary to take information from many sources and translate this into a workable and comparable set of data. To do this using such disparate views of a territory as census and population information, nature and environmental points, social and ethnic data, and levels of local, national and corporate governance, it is useful to ‘normalise’ all data into one easily readable set of maps which simply and graphically identify issues and potentials at any specific point in the area – in essence it’s ‘DNA’.
